The Orem Golden Tigers finished their first trip through Region 8 undefeated after beating their other crosstown rival Timpanogos 68-54. Zach Hunsaker lead the Tigers with 22 points and Dalton Nixon added another 14 in the win. Trevor Schade hit four 3-pointers and had 18 points total for Timpanogos in the loss.
Timpanogos did not play like a team with only 2 region wins. They were stellar from beyond the arc, hitting eight 3-pointers compared to Orem’s four. Midway through the 2nd quarter, the score was tied at 16-16. Timpanogos would put a 9-3 run together to jump out to a 25-19 lead with three minutes left to play in the half. Orem would cut the deficit to four and entered the half down 31-27.
Orem opened the 3rd quarter on a 7-2 run and reclaimed the lead 34-33. Timpanogos would snatch it right back with back-to-back 3-pointers. The two teams would trade buckets the rest of the 3rd quarter and Orem held a meager 46-44 lead going into the 4th quarter.
Another 7-2 run would put the Tigers up for good, and their lead never fell below nine points again. Josh Pollard added an exclamation point dunk with under a minute to play, sending the Orem students into a frenzy for a final time.
With the win, Orem improved to 13-1 on the season, 7-0 in Region 8. Halfway through the region schedule, Orem sits atop the Region and will face Provo High on Tuesday at 7pm at Tiger Fieldhouse.
